The fascinating Kashmiri carpet is a product of painstaking workmanship. From the blueprint taleem to a finished carpet is a saga of an art perfected over centuries

Kashmiri carpets are indeed beautiful and aesthetic works of art and their history can be traced back to their more famous brethren from Persia. Intricate and lush spreads of design and delicate weaving, Kashmiri carpets are born out of the hard work of many Kashmiri craftsmen.

A fascinating aspect of carpet weaving in Kashmir is its blueprint called taleem. The taleems are long, narrow pieces of brown paper covered with interminable rows of twists, curves and hieroglyphs. A taleem for a seven foot long carpet is about three inches wide and runs into a hundred meters. This is then cut into meter-long strips for ease of handling. The intricate carpet design takes months to learn. The actual weaving begins after that. Kashmiri carpets are hand- knotted. A hand-knotted carpet takes several months or more than a  year – depends on the size -  to make.

We manufacture carpets in Silk as well as in Wool. Silk carpets are delicate, have a distinct sheen, are velvety soft to touch. There are a few qualities in silk, ranging from pure ( silk on silk ) to a mixture  ( silk on cotton ). These carpets have 400 to 900 knots per square inch and can rise up to 1,600 knots per square inch.

Woolen carpets are available in range of qualities. The better the quarpet. Woolen carpet could have 100 to 600 knots per slity of wool, the softer it is to touch. It makes thinner folds and is more flexible. It also has the sheen of silk. The finer the carpet, the more are the number of knots per square inch of the caquare inch.

The sizes available with us are from 12 x 12 inches up to 18 x 15 fts. We are also able to manufacture carpet as per your requirement.
